The Pope: “Welcoming migrants, but with caution. Now a plan for Africa”
GENEVA – Speaks on migrants to say that the criteria are the same as always: «Welcome, accompany, arrange, integrate». But that every government “must act with the virtue of prudence, because a country must welcome as many as it can and how many it can integrate, educate, give work”. Much, he says, has done Italy and Greece, but also Lebanon, Jordan, and Spain. However, he warns, a problem remains and is that of the “trafficking of migrants” and “Libyan prisons: they mutilate, torture and then throw in the mass graves”. For this reason he calls for a sort of Marshall plan for Africa: “An emergency plan to invest in those countries and to give work and education”. Africa cannot be “exploited”, it is necessary to invest. So Francis, in the press conference on the return flight from Geneva where he participated in an ecumenical day with haughty Christian denominations.
