Pakistan, bus bomb in Peshawar: at least 15 dead
PESHAWAR – At least 15 people died this morning in a bomb explosion on a bus in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan. The vehicle carried government employees on their way to work. Another 25 passengers were injured in the explosion caused by an IED device.
The force of the explosion also broke the windows of the surrounding buildings causing panic among the residents.
The Pakistani prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, strongly condemned the attack expressing his “profound sadness” over the loss of human lives. “This cowardly attack cannot undermine our fight against terrorism,” he said.
Peshawar is the capital of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on the border with the Khyber region, where in October 2014 the Pakistani army began an offensive against the rebels in the tribal area of Northern Waziristan.
