MAIDAN SHAHR – Two deaths and at least ninety injured, including women and many children, the result of a suicide bombing today in Afghanistan in Maidan Shahr, capital of the eastern province of Maidan Wardak, about 35 kilometers south-west of Kabul. The suicide bomber launched himself aboard a tanker loaded with explosives against a training center for Afghan troops and police, managed by the NATO contingent, and blew himself up.
The explosion occurred in a street where an international and Afghan troop coordination office is located. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, explaining that it was carried out in response to the recent execution of four members of the militant movement that took place by order of President Hamid Karzai. The Taliban executed on Wednesday in Kabul had been found guilty of a series of crimes including murder, rape, kidnapping, theft and cruelty to children.
Hospital sources confirm that there are two confirmed deaths. Most of the injured are civilians but several NATO soldiers were also injured, as recognized by the ISAF Command, the Allied-led International Security Assistance Force.
