Middle East, Syria accepts the US invitation for the peace conference in Annapolis
DAMASCUS – Syria has accepted the invitation of the United States to participate in the Middle East Peace Conference to be held on November 26th and 27th in Annapolis, USA. The government of Damascus will be represented by a diplomatic delegation headed by the deputy foreign minister, Faysal Mukdad.
The Holy See will also participate in the Conference, confirmed the Director of the Press Room, Father Federico Lombardi, in response to questions from journalists. “I can confirm – he said – that the Holy See has been invited to attend the Annapolis Conference. The composition of the Delegation will be announced tomorrow”.
Today, during the Angelus, the Pope wished that a “just and definitive” solution be found to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “I ask you to join the Day of Prayer called for today by the Episcopal Conference of the United States of America – he also asked the faithful – to implore from the Spirit of God peace for that region so dear to us and the gifts of wisdom and courage for all the protagonists of the important meeting “.
